Making an impact working remotely: Wednesday 21st October, 5:00pm – 6:00pm

The proliferation of technology across organisations and legal departments alongside a long-term shift to remote working means that the key skills and competencies for a successful in-house career have changed.

During this session you will learn:

  • How to make an impact in an online meeting – as a presenter or participant
  • Top tips for how to conduct yourself during an online meeting
  • Practical advice on behaviours to avoid during online interactions with team members, business colleagues and external parties
  • As a junior lawyer, how to stand out from a crowd and impress superiors during a collective online meeting

Luan de Burgh is the Founding Director of de Burgh Training Ltd and specialises in delivering leading communication, presentation and impact training in business with a particular focus in the legal sector.

For over a decade he has worked extensively with partners, associate and business services in the legal sector as well as with well-known figures in politics and the media helping them deliver messages effectively, develop strong business relationships and leave a positive lasting impression.

Alex Chesworth

Head of Legal, Pets at Home Group PLC

Alex is the Head of Legal for Pets at Home's retail business unit. He'll share with us his career journey that has seen him move between private practice and in-house roles, including at Pinsent Masons, Vertex, Eversheds and Manchester United. Alex will share his experience of moving between in-house and private practice and across sectors, and also provide some advice on what to consider at the beginning of your legal career.

Sophie Gould

In-house Network Relationship Manager, LexisNexis

Sophie Gould runs the Aspire forum.

She trained as a lawyer in the City and worked as an in‐house lawyer for 10 years including as Head of Legal for Virgin Radio and Ginger Media Group.

Sophie is passionate about promoting social mobility in the legal profession. She works closely in partnership with Aspiring Solicitors and The Social Mobility Business Partnership.

Louisa van Eeden‐Smit

Head of Marketing, In‐house Legal, LexisNexis

Louisa leads marketing for the in‐house legal community at LexisNexis.

She joined the dedicated in‐house team at LexisNexis five years ago and has a passion for driving and facilitating initiatives which are customer‐focused at their heart.

Her vision is to support in‐house counsel succeed in their fast‐evolving role based on deep insight, data analysis and best practice gathered across the in‐house community.

Sally Swift

Director, Global Legal Operations and Innovation, NBCUniversal

Sally Swift currently serves as Director, Global Legal Operations and Innovation at NBCUniveral. Sally has spent her career working in the legal sector, most recently leading a busy legal operations department at a UK national law firm where she had responsibility for the strategic leadership and operational management of over 260 staff. She has led several legal teams and spent over 10 years running a successful legal outsourcing business, prior to this she managed her own litigation caseload in private practice.

Sally has a passion for creating efficient practices by developing new streamlined ways of working and embracing innovation and tech to find client solutions that deliver results in legal operations. Sally was recently recognised as a finalist for ‘Inspirational Woman of the Year’ at a regional business awards and in late 2018 Sally was the national winner of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives ‘Award for Lifelong Learning’. This was in recognition for her commitment and dedication to championing access to the legal profession, creating new inclusive qualifications for legal apprentices entering the profession. Sally has also this Summer completed an Executive MBA with Nottingham Business School
